This briefly talks about Native Americans in Colonial Maryland.
When the first settlers came to Maryland they came across a Native American tripe called the Yaocomico. They later encountered another tribe called the Piscataway. Both tribes developed relationships with the new settlers; they taught them valuable survival skills. The settlers learned how to hunt and prepare new dishes like succotash and hominy. Trading was very common between the two. The Native Americans traded fur in exchange for modern household things like pots. They also helped the settlers grow tobacco; it quickly became a very popular product. While the settlers were getting rich, the Native American, who openly helped them, ended up being poor. After a year, the Yaocomico moved out of their land leaving it all for the settlers. The Piscataway tribe, who started out at about 2,000 members, was reduced to only about 150 in just 41 years due to the diseases that were brought by the English settlers. At this point the settler took over the Piscataway's land.
